Event descriptions and rules:
GOAT TYING
- This is a timed event for the wrangler and cowboy divisions, girls
and boys.
- Time starts when the contestant crosses the start line and stops when
their hands are thrown up and the flag judge drops the flag.
- Contestants will start
at the alleyway and proceed to the goat where the flagman is, either on the right or left.
- Three
legs must be tied and stay tied for 6 seconds. If the goat gets up, no time.
- Horses coming in contact with the goat or stake rope will result in a disqualification.
- There will be a 30 second time limit.
- The appropriate sized goat
will be used for either girls or boys
POLE BENDING
- The pole bending pattern is for the Cowpoke, Wrangler and Cowboy divisions, girls
and boys.
- The pole bending pattern is to be run around 6 poles. Each
pole is to be 21 feet apart and the first pole is to be 21 feet from the starting line.
- The
pattern may be run either to the right or left.
- Each pole knocked over shall carry a 5
second penalty.
- Broken or incomplete patterns will result in
a disqualification. A broken pattern consists of missing a pole or passing a pole. You
may not back up or turn around to correct your mistake. The pattern must be run exactly as shown.
BARREL RACING
- The
course must be measured exactly, the first barrel will be 20 yards from the start line, there will be 30 yards between the
first and second barrel, and 35 yards between the second and third barrel. If the course is too large for
the available space, then the pattern should be reduced until it fits the arena by 5 yards at a time. Remember
to leave adequate space between barrels and obstacles. First and second barrels should be at least 20 feet
from the fence.
- The contestant will run to barrel number 1, pass to the left of it, and
complete an approximately 360 degree turn around it; then go to barrel number 2, pass to the right of it and complete a slight
more than a 360 degree turn around it; then go to barrel number 3, pass to the right of it and do another approximately 360
degree turn around it; and then run to the finish line passing between barrel number 1 and 2.
- This
barrel course may also be run to the left.
- Each barrel knocked over shall carry a
5 second penalty.
- Broken or incomplete pattern results in a disqualification. The
pattern must be run exactly as shown. You may NOT go to the wrong side of the barrel and back up to correct
your mistake. You may not circle before the barrel and continue on. Both of these examples
will result in a disqualification.
STOCK SORTING
- This event is for the wrangler andcowboy divisions, open to girls and boys
- This is a timed event with a 2 minute time limit.
- Yearling heifers shall
be calmed and bunched at the end of the arena. The contestant shall ride into the herd and sort out 2 heifers,
either one at a time or if 2 come out at the same time your time stops. If more than 2 come out at anytime,
time stops but with a 30 second penalty PER HEAD over the 2 head limit.
- The contestant
shall not exceed a trot in the herd, but can lope out the selected number once it is clear of the herd.
- Time starts when the contestant rides across the start/stop line and ends when the final selected
cattle crosses the start/stop line after being ridden out of the herd or when time runs out. The fastest time wins.
CHUTE
DOGGIN' 1. For the cowboy division only; ages 14-17, girls and boys 2. 30
second time limit 3. Stock will be run into a chute into a left hand deliver. All stock will be turned
out in the same direction. 4. The
score line will be clearly marked, parallel to the bucking chutes and 10 feet in front
of the chute. 5. If after calling for the
steer, the steer gets loose, the dogger may take no more than one
step to catch the steer. The wrestler must bring the steer to a stop or change its direction
and twist it down. 6. The steer is considered thrown down
only when it is lying flat on its side, or on its back with all four feet and head straight.
A hullahan (steer lying down with 2 legs one way and 2 legs under or the other way) will result
in a disqualification.
7. Only the contestant
is allowed in the chute with the steer. No tailing of steers from the chute
is allowed. 8. With steers loaded in chute,
dogger gets beside the steer, left hand on the left horn, right hand in front
of or behind the front shoulder. When dogger calls for steer the chute will
be opened. Dogger must keep right hand in front of or behind shoulder until the steer's
nose crosses the score line. If dogger moves into throwing position before steer's nose
crosses score line, there will be a 10 second penalty added to the time. If steer is
thrown before crossing the score line, the dogger will be disqualified..

limit on this event. Any catch is legal as long as the head goes thru the loop.

start/stop line coming out of the chute. 7. A brightly colored ribbon shall be tied onto the rope and to the roper's belt loop or other agreed
upon area to designate when the rope detaches from their person; stopping the time. 8.
