Cowpoke Division is for ages 6-9. 

Events include:  barrels, pole bending, dummy steer roping and goat tail untying.
                       All events are done on horseback and are NOT lead-line classes.

Descriptions and rules and regulations:

GOAT TAIL TYING

  1. This event is for the Cowpoke division ages 6 -9 only, girls and boys.
  2. The goat shall be held while the ribbon is tied on the tail.
  3. Time will begin with the horse crosses the start/stop line and time stops after the ribbon is tied and the contestant throws their hands up.
  4. The goat shall be tied at the same distance from the start line for each child.  This distance shall be 100 feet and the goat shall be tied on a 10 foot rope with a 60 second time limi
DUMMY STEER ROPING


1. For cowpoke level only ages 6-9, open to girls and boys.
2. On foot event - not off of horses.
3. Point system used for determining winner:
    a.  slick horn(legal catch of both horns)  =  3 pts.
    b.  half head (nose and one horn)   =  2 pts
    c.  neck catch (around whole head)  =  1 pt
4.  Ties will be broke by the start/finish line being moved back each throw until someone misses.
5.  There is a 2 loop limit. (2 chances to catch)

                                                                                 POLE BENDING

  1. The pole bending pattern is for the Cowpoke, Wrangler and Cowboy divisions, girls and boys.
  2. The pole bending pattern is to be run around 6 poles.  Each pole is to be 21 feet apart and the first pole is to be 21 feet from the starting line.
  3. The pattern may be run either to the right or left.
  4. Each pole knocked over shall carry a 5 second penalty.
  5. Broken or incomplete patterns will result in a disqualification.  A broken pattern consists of missing a pole or passing a pole.  You may not back up or turn around to correct your mistake.  The pattern must be run exactly as shown.

BARREL RACING

  1. The course must be measured exactly, the first barrel will be 20 yards from the start line, there will be 30 yards between the first and second barrel, and 35 yards between the second and third barrel.  If the course is too large for the available space, then the pattern should be reduced until it fits the arena by 5 yards at a time.  Remember to leave adequate space between barrels and obstacles.  First and second barrels should be at least 20 feet from the fence.
  2. The contestant will run to barrel number 1, pass to the left of it, and complete an approximately 360 degree turn around it; then go to barrel number 2, pass to the right of it and complete a slight more than a 360 degree turn around it; then go to barrel number 3, pass to the right of it and do another approximately 360 degree turn around it; and then run to the finish line passing between barrel number 1 and 2.
  3. This barrel course may also be run to the left.
  4. Each barrel knocked over shall carry a 5 second penalty.
  5. Broken or incomplete pattern results in a disqualification.  The pattern must be run exactly as shown.  You may NOT go to the wrong side of the barrel and back up to correct your mistake.  You may not circle before the barrel and continue on.  Both of these examples will result in a disqualification.


GOAT TEAM ROPING:
**This will be an open event and will NOT count towards the all   around.
1.  This is an on foot event - not on horses.
2.  Open to a mixture of all ages, girls and boys.
3.  Goat will be released out of a chute (just like team roping) with  a header and a heeler.
4.  There is a 2 loop limit with a 30 second time limit. (for goats' safety!)
5.  Any head catch is legal as long as no legs are caught. 
6.  Five second penalty for one hind leg.
